How To Make a 40 Year Old Surgery Better

Andrew Kramer

This video illustrates the progression of techniques and improvements in execution for penoscrotal placement of a penile prosthesis. Originally described over 40 years ago, these advances allow for better corporotomy placement, increased operative efficiency, and minimized contact between the device and the patient’s skin. Several techniques are described to aid in corporotomy placement: proximal exposure, traction/countertraction, tenting of holding sutures. Other methods for procedure efficiency are demonstrated such as: reservoir placement, cylinder placement, corporal dilation. The author believes these advances lower operative times, provide a safe procedure process and result in better overall patient outcomes.
