The VJPU is a peer-reviewed journal dedicated to publishing video content related to sexual medicine and, in particular, prosthetic urology. The journal is interested in novel technology and devices as well as “how I do it” surgical expositions. Recommendations for trouble shooting surgical procedures, addressing complications and the corrections for problems are encouraged. Articles will be peer reviewed by leading experts in the field of sexual medicine and prosthetic urology. Because of the permanent nature of a video submission as compared to a written article, peer review will be open i.e. authors names will be known to the reviewer. Due to the difficulty of video revision, decisions by peer review will strongly tend toward acceptance or rejection rather than “accept with revision”. Submissions will be peer reviewed by at least two reviewers and final publication decision will be made by Editor in Chief on the basis of these recommendations.
The VJPU will be freely available to all members of the International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM), which includes members of the Asia Pacific Society for Sexual Medicine (APSSM), the European Society for Sexual Medicine (ESSM), the Sociedad Latino-Americano de Medicina Sexual (SLAMS), the Middle East Society for Sexual Medicine (MESSM), the Sexual Medicine Society of North America (SMSNA), and the International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health (ISSWSH). The VJPU is supported by commercial sponsors whose videos can also be viewed on this site. We encourage members of our viewing audience to express their appreciation to these sponsors for their support of our education.
The VJPU is attempting to become compliant with requirements for our journal to be indexed in the US National Library of Medicine repositories MEDLINE and PubMed. One of the requirements is that an abstract must accompany the video submission.
Creating the abstract to accompany your video submission is simple.

All authors listed on the video are required to declare all competing interests in relation to the video. All videos should have a disclaimer at the beginning of the video listing in writing all competing interests whether financial or non financial for each author. If an author has no competing interests the statement should read, “the author has no disclosures”. If competing interests become public after publication of the article that had not been disclosed, the article will be removed from the VJPU and no further articles will be accepted from that author. If you are unsure whether you have a competing interest, please contact the editor before submission.
Ethics & Patient Consent
Authors will be expected to have obtained ethics committee approval and informed patient consent for a video submission that is experimental or where a procedure varied from the usual clinical practice to meet the patient’s clinical need. In cases where details or images could be recognizable by the individual participating in the video, consent must be documented visually in the film. In cases where images are entirely unidentifiable and there are no details on individuals, consent for display is not required.
The International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM) appreciates your submission to the ISSM Video Journal of Prosthetic Urology. To allow the ISSM/VJPU to disseminate your publication, the ISSM/VJPU requests that you read and accept this agreement. By agreeing, you make it possible for the ISSM/VJPU to share your Submission, being the video and/or any related materials, with our journal readers, members, healthcare professionals and other interested individuals.
Once your video is finalized, you will need to format it for digital delivery. It is important that your digital video files are compatible with the Video Journal of Prosthetic Urology (VJPU) chosen online video platform.
